Banishment 1961 – 1991

Digging sand at the Landbou.
This was a sandy site situated south west of the MSP and close to the limestone quarry. Prisoners were made to work on this site as a form of punishment, at times aimlessly pushing loaded wheelbarrows in the soft sandy soil, from one part of the site to another. Warders beat and tortured the prisoners as they did this ‘work’.
The Landbou site today.
Sifting sand.
